John Sternfield, Managing Director

John Sternfield has been an active investment banker for more than 30 years. In the last fifteen years, he has been focused exclusively on the technology industry, where he has been the senior banker on more than 80 public offerings raising more $10 billion and completed more than 30 mergers and acquisitions transactions and capital raises representing more than $5 billion in transaction value. John is based in Palo Alto, California.

John joined Petsky Prunier in 2012 to lead the firm’s Technology Investment Banking practice. Prior to joining Petsky Prunier, he was a managing director at North Point Advisors, where he founded the firm’s Global Technology Investment Banking practice.

In 2006, John co-founded Cantor Fitzgerald’s Technology Investment Banking practice and opened the firm’s West Coast office to establish its banking effort. In 2002, he founded Ross Road Partners to service the needs of emerging growth technology companies in merger and acquisitions and private equity placements.

From 1995 until 2002, John was a managing director in Investment Banking at Piper Jaffray where he served as Group Head of the firm’s Communications & Computing practice. John opened the firm’s Menlo Park office and helped build it to more than 100 professionals. He also founded and ran the firm’s Israeli practice, Venture Capital Liaison Group and managed the firm’s private equity investments in communications and related technology companies.

John developed and managed the Venture Capital Services Group at Montgomery Securities, where he coordinated Corporate Finance new business from the venture capital and financial sponsors from 1992 until 1995. Prior to Montgomery, he also held positions in equity sales at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and Brown Brothers Harriman. John is a graduate of Harvard Graduate School of Business with an MBA and received a B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.
